Being Careful During these Uncertain Times
Thu, Apr 30th, 2020
Times are difficult right now due to the Covid-19 pandemic and most of our daily routines have been altered. We have learned new terminology like social distancing and contact tracing. Delaware has recently made wearing a face covering mandatory when out in public.
Employees must wear a face covering when working in areas open to the public or areas where they will come within 6 feet of other staff. Business owners must supply face coverings and hand sanitizer to their employees.
Individuals who are immune system compromised, have underlying health conditions and our elderly population are at a higher risk of worse outcomes when contracting Covid-19. It is important to follow the face covering and social distancing guidlines to try to help keep ourselves, those we love and our fellow mankind safe from this virus.
According to the CDC, the virus is mainly spread from person to person through droplets when they cough, sneeze and even just when talking. These droplets land in the eyes, mouths and noses of people nearby and can even get inhaled into the lungs. This is why face coverings and social distancing is so important.
This virus seems to be "community spread". This means that people in an area have been infected and some don't even know where or how they were infected. Also, the virus seems to be most contagious when people are sick. This is why those who are sick with Covid-19 are asked to stay at home isolated or in the hospital (depending on how sick they are).
These are scarey times because although the medical professionals have learned much about Covid-19 since it started, there is still a lot they don't know or are unsure of. It has been said that even people who have no symptoms can spread the virus.
Washing our hands, covering our faces, social distancing and doing what we can to help flatten the curve is the new norm. Professionals are talking about this virus coming back in the fall or becoming part of the usual seasonal illnesses that occur like the flu. What the future holds for Covid-19 is yet to be seen. Hopefully this pandemic will soon pass.
